About the Mission
The SA-8’s in the HQ battalions, constant red air CAPs and Intercepts against us and weather have made going after the quick moving massive red offensive very difficult. The red air has thinned out a little in the last hour giving us a chance to try new methods of hunting and killing the SA-8’s. We had some success hitting a couple of them in the last mission using AGM-65B’s. It is very difficult though due to the poor TV video of the 65B’s and the very limited range. We have to find them while staying out of their range, get an accurate range on the closest one with radar then try to shoot them with the 65B’s while only have about a 1nm window to take the shot. Wait longer than that for the cross to stop flashing and we’re toast. Clouds, moving vehicles and wind rule out the dumb bombs especially when trying to stay above the SA-8’s. This 1981 scenario is very fun and challenging.
